Well…I had heard that we had a Special Needs Sports Program in White House, but it wasn’t until recently that my 9 1/2 year old son became interested in sports. I was SO excited to discover that the White House Special Needs Athletic Program will be taking registrations for Little League Challenger Baseball from now until March 15, 2011!
The program sounds AWESOME! It is for any boy or girl, 4-18 years old, that faces a mental or physical challenge. The cost is $35-includes full uniform-for residents of White House ($47 for non-residents). Thank goodness, they’ve made it affordable! According to the flyer, practices begin in March and Saturday games start in April (6 game season), everyone bats each inning & plays defensively, 1-2 innings per game (about an hour) and “Buddies” can be used to assist as needed. Buddies can be family members or approved volunteers.
For more information, please contact White House Parks and Recreation at 672-4350, ext 2114 or visit www.cityofwhitehouse.com/parks for a printable registration form. *NOTE: You can also download the flyer and registration form on the WHAM website (downloads page).*
They also plan to have Basketball in the Summer and Soccer in the Fall. I have some more detailed questions in to the director and will post the answers when I hear back from him.
Hope you’re excited, too!! Marty
